week1: potential topics of interest

1-Escapism & Art Therapy

Escapism is a mental diversion from unpleasant aspects of daily life, typically through activities involving imagination or entertainment. Escapism also may be used to occupy one’s self away from persistent feelings of depression or general sadness.

Entire industries have sprung up to foster a growing tendency of people to remove themselves from the rigors of daily life – especially into the digital world.

As a student of 3D computer animation, I wondered if I could create a virtual world in which people would be physically and mentally relaxed, satisfy their fantasies, and get a moment of peace.

2-Ways to Live in Peace with Nature – in Virtual Reality

Madelaine in a Study of Stress Reduction in Virtual Reality, Bosch Lab, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Sweden 2015 Dr. Matilda van den Bosch stresses her subjects with a math test and a simulated job interview. After delivering them into a virtual forest with singing birds, she measures how soon her subjects’ heart rates recover. © Lucas Foglia
